5 Custom Ukulele Builders

Like so many others, I don't own a custom ukulele and I probably won't have the money for one anytime soon.  Having a wife and kid definitely limits your ukulele budget.  Not that I'm complaining.  I wouldn't trade my family for anything!  But that doesn't keep me from looking and dreaming about which custom uke I'd buy.  That being said, here are 5 custom ukulele builders that you NEED to check out if you're thinking about getting your first!

Boat Paddle Ukuleles

I have to start with one of my personal favorites based out of my home state of Missouri.  Boat Paddle ukes have a simple, yet elegant look and every sound sample I've heard has been nothing short of fantastic. 

DaSilva Ukulele Company

DaSilva is out of California and is a very respected custom builder in the uke community.  As far as aesthetic value goes, I can't say that I'm a big fan...there's a little too much going on with these ukes for my taste (I like simpler looking ukuleles).  But hey, if you like that extra flash more power to you! 
By all accounts, these builds are top of the line.

Moore Bettah Ukuleles

Handcrafted in Hawaii, Moore Bettah Ukuleles takes the word "custom" to a whole new level.  I think that the flamingo uke in the picture gives you an idea of what I'm talking about.  Browse through their uke gallery and you'll see ukes decorated with mermaids, dragons, and a whole bunch of topless women...seriously, what's with all the topless women?
Anyway, if you're looking for a very personal touch on your custom ukulele, look no further.

Lichty Guitars

Don't let the name fool you.  Lichty makes ukuleles too!  Including some real baritone ukulele beauties!  Simple and gorgeous designs!  Right up my alley.

Mya-Moe Ukuleles

Last, but certainly not least is Mya-Moe Ukuleles.  Again, great sound and good looks.  What else can ya say?
