New Ukulele Magazine

A brand new e-zine directed towards all of us ukulele enthusiasts has emerged.  "Ukulele" seems to be a simple, yet very appropriate title for this compilation of interviews, tabs, reviews, and a whole lot more.

There is an e-mail sign up required to read it, but other than that slight inconvenience, it's free!  You can check it out and read through it at www.ukuleleunlimited.com

So far just two issues have been released.  The most recent Spring 2013 issue features an interview with James Hill, a bunch of tabs including "On the Beach at Waikiki", a Blues on the Uke Lesson, and reviews of the Ohana CKP-70 Concert, Kala KA-SMLTE-C Tenor, and Boulder Creek Riptide UC-SNS. 

Check it out and take the survey while you're there.  This is a very cool thing and all of us ukers need to show them that we can support such a magazine for years to come.

Mini Ukuleles: Which one should I buy?

The first time I saw someone playing a "mini" ukulele, I knew I had to have one!  Maybe you've seen one or played one and felt the same way.  By almost all accounts, these are novelty ukes...but I use that term loosely.  They do have a very different and distinct sound.  The cute factor probably puts them in the novelty category more than anything. 

There are a few different companies making these right now, so which one should you get?  Here's a quick rundown of some of these mini ukuleles with price points...starting with the most expensive....

What's a Good Second Ukulele?

So you've been playing ukulele for awhile and are considering an upgrade, eh?  What uke should you upgrade to?  You're not a novice...but you're not an expert and you don't want to shell out $500.  What's a good second ukulele to continue your journey with that won't break the bank?  A lot ukes are being built these days to cater to people just like you, and while there are many options out there, I've picked out 5 of my favorite ukuleles in the $100-200 price range that would make a great second ukulele.  And hey, after you upgrade, you can always take that $40 beginner uke and stash it in your car to use as your travel/beater ukulele!
